Note:”Flowey and Friends” is not a real game. It’s an alternative way Undertale could’ve happened.

Hey dudes, Nova here! Welcome back to Flowey and Friends! We just got done exploring Toriel’s house, and we’re finally ready to ask to leave. Flowey said he talked to Toriel, so, this should be fine, right? But we’re also just about at the end of an area, so it feels like there’s supposed to be a boss?

Waterbound did make another comment, but… they kind of lost me there? I guess that means this game has more complex of a story than I thought. But they did say I should be prepared for whatever happens next, so… I guess something big is happening?

Anyway, I’ll be asking Toriel when I can go home.

Toriel:Hmm.. already? I thought you’d at least want to stay for a while… But as much as what the flower said…

…Follow me. I have something I need to talk to you about.

…Okay then? I guess I’ll follow her down.. oh, now is when I go in the basement.

Toriel:You see, the world outside of the RUINs is one ruled by ASGORE. And he has a policy that any humans that are found get captured, and killed. Every human that has left the RUINs has died at the hands of ASGORE.

Toriel:This door is one-way as well. So once you leave, you cannot come back.

Wait, then how does she know about what happens on the other side? …Is it those two people Flowey talked about? I don’t see someone who wants humans dead telling Toriel all about it. Wouldn’t they WANT Toriel to think it’s safe so humans just head right through?

Your flower friend thinks you can survive-

Flowey:Them and I. “You and HIM”. I’m following them. We’re not just leaving them out there alone!

Toriel:Oh, right, right. But STILL. I still have my doubts.

Toriel:But regardless of these doubts, he is right about one thing. These RUINs were not meant for a human to stay in. It would simply not be healthy for a human to grow up in a place as small and barren as this. And considering that you asked to leave already… it appears I cannot keep you much longer anyway.

Even still… While what he said is true… the danger out there is all too real. So I ask that you get strong enough to survive, and THEN leave. And if you already are strong enough, then you must prove it to me.

Hm? How are you supposed to do that? Simple. Win against me in a FIGHT.

If you can defeat me, then you’ll have a fairly good chance out there. There is even stronger armor over there, you’ll need it if you go out there. But if you cannot… you will not fare a chance against ASGORE.

Flowey:Wait, what?

Toriel:If they cannot learn how to attack those who will show no mercy, like HIM, it will do no good.

Wait a moment, isn’t Asgore one of the friends mentioned in the download page? SURELY there’s a way to spare him, right?

Flowey:But don’t you know what happens when you lose all your hit points?! What if another human falls after this one?

Toriel:Hmph. You have a point. But then how can we demonstrate whether or not they WOULD have been able to defeat me?

Flowey:How about this? If they drop you to half HP, while having more than half of their own HP, that’ll tell us they could have won. As if we repeated that process, your HP would drop to 0 before theirs does!

That… is actually a good idea. Though I guess that hint doesn’t apply to the demo now, does it? Or maybe it DOES apply? Maybe we can’t pass this test and have to do the trick here? Or there’s another boss after Toriel in the demo?

Toriel:I will allow it… if they can do it without using consumable items. If they used more than half their healing items… then it no longer follows it could simply repeat. And we have no way of knowing what items they have.

Anyway, I guess I’ll attack? There’s NO way I’m one-shotting a boss. So, the manual says I’m supposed to press Z in the middle of the target?

Um, what target-

[MISS]

Toriel:…

Flowey:Uh… buddy? You missed.

(A Toriel fire attack happens)

Flowey:Look. There’s a rhythm to FIGHTing. It doesn’t work the same way you’d fight a human. Have you played any rhythm games? Here, let me show you.

Toriel:Wait, so they can’t just swing their weapon at me?

Flowey:Nope, they can’t. They have to time their shots. It’s a different genre for humans than it is for monsters.

Toriel:…That would explain a lot.

“Genre”? You don’t mean style? Why doesn’t Toriel find that weird? Ah, maybe it’s just a fourth wall joke.

Flowey:After you press Z to FIGHT, a cursor will start moving across the bottom of the screen! You’re supposed to press Z again once the cursor gets to the box in the middle. The better timing you get it, the more damage you deal!

I must have been on the monsters’ side before, or there was a time of peace after the war. Flowey mentioned having to fight monsters as something new, and found nothing off with me not knowing how to fight. But he also thinks I’d get that we need to fight… so I must have fought other humans. But… why does nobody except Flowey remember me, then? Anyway, I guess I’ll attack for real now…

[20]

Toriel:That was a strong one. Very good.

———————

Okay, this is not looking good- And I just dropped below half…

Toriel:It looks like we cannot say they would survive. The trends are pointing to the human being the one to die.

Flowey:Maybe they’re… just learning?

Toriel:Perhaps. But if that is the case, they may always simply return here later on.

Toriel:There is no shame in running away from the battle for now, my child.

Flowey:…

I guess I have to try doing the spare trick thing Froggit talked about? If I die instead, I’ll see if it’s possible to pass this Toriel’s way.

———————

…And I’m using the pie here. It’s probably the end of the demo, so no reason to save it. It heals me up to maximum HP!

———————-

(HP reaches zero, the player has died.)

[GAME OVER]

You cannot give up just yet… Nova! Stay determined…

Who is that?

(The player respawns near Toriel’s house.)

Flowey:…And, you died.

But you’re back now! Because you can LOAD your SAVE file at any time! Seems you’ve made good use of it so far! Golly, you already worked out you should SAVE your game before you make any big choices! After all, you never know when something unexpected might happen!

…So you remember previous reloads…? Well, that’ll make finding everything in the game harder. I wonder just how much he can remember, though. How many unique combinations have been put in there? …I already missed winning on the first try.

Flowey:Hm… You never got the Faded Ribbon, did you?

OH! The ribbon mentioned in the manual! I forgot about that, I should find that! Which hole was it in again?

Flowey:Well, I actually remember seeing a ribbon earlier. Remember that room with the six holes? If one of them had a switch, and another had a Vegetoid… then what might the others hold?

Oh, OF COURSE! i guess I’ll just be… backtracking some.

Flowey:Also, I’m going to try again… Since I know how she took my last attempt, maybe I can do better this time… you might not have to fight her at all! You should still get the ribbon, just in case it doesn’t work out better this time.

Knowing this is a game, we probably WILL still have to fight her.

————————

And… there’s a ribbon. If I remember the manual correctly, this is armor. So… I’m equipping it… and oh, there’s a bonus to my defense. That should make the fight easier.

So, now we’re back. Let’s save again… and that’ll be it for now. I really hope we can win this fight the next time. Just remember to leave a like and smash that subscribe button if you want to see me give this fight another go! Nova, out!
