Undertale AU Wiki

Welcome to the Undertale AU Wiki, the main place for documenting Undertale's AUs. If you wish to contribute, just know that it is REQUIRED for you to read the Rules and Guidelines and the Policy of the Wiki BEFORE doing so.

As this is an AU Wiki, this wiki is NOT meant for characters. The Undertale OC Wiki exists for those. This Wiki is also not meant for AUs that do not have presence anywhere else, and those should be put on the Undertale AU Ideas Wiki.

This page outlines how the pages on the wiki should be organized.

General article organization

An article is a main namespace page explaining the content of, or closely related to Undertale AUs. All main namespace pages are considered articles with the exception of the Main Page.

The first paragraph (introduction) of an article should be a short description of its topic, stating what it is. Empty sections are to be omitted from the article. The first mentioning of the article's topic is always bolded.

Article header

TITLE

{{Title}} is a template used to change the title that is displayed on the article from the actual article name.

Templates

The various templates, as found here.

Tocright

{{Tocright}} is a template that puts the Table of Contents to the right. It is used on pages where the Table of Contents is too large and putting it on the right side does not obstruct the other content. Pages containing infoboxes in the header mustn't use this template as it will push the infobox to the bottom.

Page body

Page body is the main content of the article, containing all the information about the topic. Sectioning of the body is done depending on the type of the page. More information can be found below.

Article footer

Trivia

Trivia sections are bullet-point lists located at the end of the main content of an article containing interesting, little-known facts that cannot be incorporated into an article effectively. Trivia takes the lowest priority, meaning any information should be attempted to be added to the main text before being placed in trivia. If several trivia points can be lumped into a category, do it. (ex: if Sans's trivia mentions there is a connection to Gaster 3 times, add a "Gaster" subsection in Relationships). Trivia must be true.

References

References and citations are placed at the end of an article, above navboxes but below Trivia.

Navboxes

Navboxes are templates used for navigation. They contain links to articles related to the article they are placed on. Navboxes are meant to be placed below all sections. List of all navboxes can be found here.

Translation links

Translation links are links to the same article translated into other languages. They are put below navboxes but above categories of the article.

Categories

Categories are displayed at the bottom bar on pages and are useful for grouping information as well as navigation. Note that some templates auto-add categories to an article, so additionally adding categories to an article is unnecessary. Adding irrelevant categories to articles is prohibited by the wiki policy.

AU Pages

AU pages should use {{Infobox AU}} template as an infobox and the respecting Navbox to the Type as a navbox. They all need to be in the AUs category as well as in the subcategories of it.

How an AU Page should be structured depends on the AU Type it is categorized in. Be aware that the only headings that need to be on a page are Introduction and Story. The rest, while it would be great to have the information that should go in them, are completely optional. Exceptions are:

  • Switch-Ups, Crossovers and Self-Inserts require a Character Changes section that at the very least lists the changed roles. While this usually should be done using the provided role names, Switch-Ups of AUs such as Dreamtale, which do not feature the traditional roles, may simply use the character names. As of now, Deltarune AUs also fall under this, though this may change in the future.
  • Community Shared AUs that have no story created by the original owner are exempt from requiring a Story heading, as fanmade content should not be put on an article.
  • AUs with the Games medium are exempt from requiring a Story heading, as they are usually comprised of a single game.

"I've noticed that some users have placed Introduction, as found on Page Organization, as it's own separate heading. I'd like to notify all still doing this that this action is false, and that the introduction is the paragraph, or set of paragraphs, that come before any other heading. On the Page Organization policy page, you'll see that Introduction is not marked with heading marks, so it should not be labeled on the article."

Character Changes

== Locations ==
=== Undertale Locations ===
=== Added Locations ===
== Miscellaneous ==
== Story ==

A brief description of the AU written for promotional purposes; AKA, a blurb. Should also explain how the AU is what it is. For example, if an AU is a Special Event, explain what happened that caused the AU to break away from the path that should have happened.

Special Cases

As with everything, there are special cases, whether implied or solidly written.

Animation Medium

If the medium of an AU is animation, then the Story heading is replaced with Episodes, followed by the name of each episode that links to where you can watch it in an additional heading. Within this section should be a summary of the episode.

Community Shared

The articles for Community Shared AUs should only contain information on the AU from the original author. Any additional information on the AU created after the AU becomes community shared that is not from the original author should not appear on the page, and should instead appear on a separate article detailing that specific take.

NSFW in Stories

Links within the Story heading should be marked with NSFW tags that vaguely describe the content within. Authorized tags are as follows:

  • Explicit - Used when a story page contains marginally risky content, such as a butt shot, side boob, phallic-shaped objects, or other such visuals that could elicit an erotic response. This tag should be used in place of Nudity in Written Stories unless there are pictures that contain such things in the linked chapter or page.
  • Gore - Used when a story page contains extreme amounts of detailed blood, or contains exposed internal organs (such as intestines) that are presented in a detailed manner.
  • Necrophilia - Used when a story page contains a dead character or creature that is being used in sexual activity.
  • Nudity - Used when a story page contains partial or full frontal nudity; featuring female breasts, penises, vaginas, or other such mature material. This tag should not be used on Written Stories, favoring instead the Explicit tag, unless there are pictures that contain such things in the linked chapter or page.
  • Rape - Used when a story page contains blatantly non-consensual sexual activity.

Files

File Name

All files should be given a sensible name that describes the content, the AU it is from, and be consistent across the Wiki. A good file name would be the name of the AU it is a part of (or the name of the AU the image is being placed on, regardless if that was the original intention of the artist when creating it), followed by the content of the image (such as a character name or location name). The two parts, AU name and Content, should be separated by a hyphen: "[AU NAME] - [CONTENT OF IMAGE]".

Example
UTAUWikiTale - Ink!Sans

File Credit

All files on the wiki must be credited to the original posting. Original files are discouraged from being uploaded, please post them on DeviantArt, Tumblr, or some other site before adding them here. When using the {{Credit}} template on a file page, it must always appear at the very top, above everything else.

Please review the {{Credit}} template for information on how to use it. Take note that, when crediting, you should always use this template.

Side note

When using {{Credit}} in an image caption, it is recommended, though not required, that you separate content relating to the caption and the contents of the Credit template with a hyphen surrounded by spaces. Crediting in the image caption is not required, but crediting on the file page is.
