- For the preboot, see Storyshift (Preboot).
Storyshift is an AU created and owned by Voltra, where the characters are shifted so they fill in different roles and stories without changing their personalities or species. Storyshift explores the effects of placing characters in different roles: how they act, and the consequences of their actions on themselves and the world around them. Compared to its preboot and Undertale itself, its tone is a bit darker.
While the original AU was put on indefinite hiatus in April 2017, in July of the same year it was announced a reboot comic would be published. In December of the next year, after the publication of the first part, the rest of the comic was cancelled, but it was stated it would continue in the form of a write-up, the first part of which was released in June 2019.
Around the start of 2024, claims circulated on Twitter that Storyshift has become community owned, yet these claims have no basis, and were merely malicious attempts to take the AU from Voltra based on the resurfacing of a long debunked[1] years old callout post.

Undertale Characters
Mettacrit
Main article: Mettacrit
Mettacrit is the narrator. During his life, he was a ghost monster who was supportive of a peaceful future between humans and monsters.
Boogie
Main article: Boogie
Boogie is a golden flower with a faded color and drooping petals. While initially seeming apathetic, during the tutorial the flower turns out to be rather clingy--attempting to trap Frisk by destroying the battle buttons, and stating it'll be just the two of them.
Prince Papyrus
Main article: Prince Papyrus
Papyrus is the prince of the Underground. He's very charismatic, and despite being rather prideful, he is shown to be kind and considerate towards others. His goofy personality is retained from Undertale, though he is noticeably more mature than his original counterpart. He is quite involved with Old Home, and is much more trusting in Frisk's abilities than Toriel in Undertale.
Prince Papyrus is comedically referred to by various nicknames, such as "Princely Pap", "Princepyrus" or "P.P. (which stands for Prince Papyrus)".
Alphys
Main article: Alphys
Alphys is a monster that sympathizes with the Solar Warriors, an anti-human rebel group--although she is not officially a part of it, merely being a "poser" to them. She visits Old Home every week, bringing the latest news from the rest of the Underground.
Chara
Main article: Chara
Chara is a human Frisk encounters in Frosted Fields, who is under orders to protect them. They are Asriel's adoptive sibling, although they are believed by most monsters to simply be Asriel's imaginary friend. They do not seem to be fond of humans, much like their Undertale counterpart.
Asriel
Main article: Asriel
Asriel is a boss monster Frisk encounters in Frosted Fields, who is under orders to protect them. While expressing nervousness around Frisk, he is not entirely meek, and displays both snarky behavior and minor aggression when frustrated (personality quirks akin to Flowey's.) However, this does not mean he is entirely rude, as he also displays kindness and consideration for others--primarily Chara, but also Frisk later on.
Added Characters
Webb
Main article: Webb
Webb is a spider monster that runs the bake sale in Old Home.
Justine
Main article: Justine
Justine is a human who fell down into the underground, with the Justice soul trait. They were adopted by Papyrus. They fled the Ruins and moved in with King Sans, but their life was cut short when they were killed on his throne by a Solar Guard member

- Flurriville replaces Snowdin Town
- A pine forest replaces Snowdin Forest
- Wetland replaces Waterfall
- The Furnace replaces Hotland
- Dreemurr Labs replaces the True Lab
- The Mountain's Soul replaces the CORE

Each area is divided into differently-colored sections in order to signify progression and give the scenery some variation. They are also split into two paths, with a "warrior's path", which is centered around combat, and a "puzzler's path", which is centered around puzzles. An example of this showcased in the write up is Old Home.
Additional Changes
- The weapons from Undertale are obtained in different locations than in Undertale.
- The human soul characters and the order they fall in have been changed
- Homes Hearts is a city added in Old Home, it serves as the old and first city, there are some buildings there inhabited by momsters and Papyrus's home is at the end of it

Trivia
- In the comic, Webb's name is not mentioned in the story itself, instead being revealed in the ask blog.[2]
- Every human that fell down has encountered Boogie.[3]
- Rather than red knives, Chara uses plant magic.[4]
- The name "Mettacrit" is a pun on the media review website Metacritic, as Napstablook's name is a pun on the music subscription service Napster.[5]
- Mettacrit was never planned to be a human or robot, neither during the reboot or the preboot.
- The true name is Shifty, but this does not mean anything, and is simply a nickname for Frisk.
- Unlike the preboot, Undyne will not have cybernetic enhancements.
