Project Spacetime, or PS!Outertale for short, is a take on Outertale by Mimi Pippinski (2mi127). It is set on a space station (the Outpost) which the monsters were banished to after their home planet was destroyed. On January 26th, 2022, the first official demo containing the Outlands was released for the Project Spacetime fan-game then later on May 6th, 2022, a second demo containing Starton was released. On November 22nd, 2022, a third demo containing Foundry was released and then on May 10th, 2023, a fourth demo containing Aerialis was released with multiple minor updates months after that which made a lot of improvements and changes to newer and earlier areas.
The game was originally planned to be finished by the end of 2023, but the general scope of the game ballooned a good amount which has caused the game to be pushed back to 2024. And on July 28th, 2024 in a devlog, the release date for the full game was revealed to be August 9th, 2024 and was later released that year.
Characters[]
- Chara is confirmed to be the narrator and has the power to speak to other characters through the protagonist in specific situations.
- Flowey is now known as Twinkly, the talking starling.
- Toriel is seen to be more caring and considerate towards the protagonist, even offering to take them home early if they do not choose to complete her test. Toriel seems to be more forgiving to Asgore at the end of the True Pacifist Route unlike the original game as she found out that he was only trying to help his kingdom.
- Migosp's name is changed to Silente.
- Whimsun's name is changed to Flutterlyte.
- Napstablook's music production skills are higher than in Undertale, and will take DJ Red's place if the protagonist mentions Napstablook to the supervisor. They also generally have a much bigger presence in the game such as being a shopkeeper in their own building in Starton town and being a part of their own mini side plot in the later half of Aerialis.
- Monster Kid also has a much bigger presence in the game's third area, The Foundry, than the original game. He appears during the end of Undyne's introduction cutscene and you both run off as Undyne chases you until you get the similar hiding in tall grass sequence when Monster Kid fully becomes a party member throughout most of The Foundry. He has a battle system to help you in combat and much more characterization essentially making him a main member of the cast. He also later choses to call himself "Monty" as suggested by Mettation in Time Vs. Money.
- Loox's name is changed to Oculoux.
- Papyrus is shown to be a little more confident and world-aware. His special attack is not stolen like in Undertale, allowing him to use it against Frisk on the pacifist and neutral routes. His electricity maze puzzle has been replaced by the "wall of fire" puzzle, which the player can fail.
- Sans is also shown to be less apathetic and depressed, likely due to being unaware of RESETs.
- Alphys is more confident and reacts to your actions much quicker if you so choose to kill a decent number of Monsters. She also has to abide by an agreement made by the former royal scientist to Asgore. She replaces Sans as the final Chaotic Route boss.
- Muffet's character is quite different as she is a member of the Elite Squad in Foundry and is hired by Undyne to kill you and Monster Kid when entering her territory.
- The Six Humans are still alive.
- Glyde runs a "steak enterprise" from Aerialis, and has hired at least one dealer to sell steak in the Outlands. It also later breaks into one of Mettaton's shows and attempts to make a deal with the player.
- So Sorry still appears during Chaotic Route, but however they are instead convinced to not battle, thus not making the according theme play with them, but plays instead with Glyde. So Sorry was later cut out of the full game.
- Burgerpants goes by the nickname Burgie in this game and is a good young friend to Gerson who tends to mentor him, he used to work for Mettaton but eventually stood up for himself and decided to quit and instead run his own shop and business.
- W. D. Gaster is replaced by T. N. Roman
- Snowdrake's name is changed to Stardrake.
- Ice Cap's name is changed to Astro Serf.
- Jerry is mostly the same except that his defense is much lower than in Undertale.
- Lesser Dog's name is changed to Canis Minor.
- Greater Dog's name is changed to Canis Major.
- River Person is there, albeit doesn't carry the protagonist from place to place due to them not having the traveler card. The player can get a traveler card from Aerialis.
- Woshua's name is changed to Skrubbington.
- Moldbygg's name is changed to Gelata.
- Mettaton now appears to be more audience broadwide.
- Pyrope's name is changed to Hotwire.
- Tsunderplane's name is changed to Tsunderidex.
- Madjick's name is changed to Cozmo.
- Knight Knight's name is changed to Terrestria.
- Whimsalot's name is changed to Flutterknyte.
- Astigmatism's name is changed to Eyewalker Prime.
- Some new characters are added:
- Mushy (Outlands, Encounter) - A monster which replaces Vegetoid. Its attacks and dialogue are based on wild west standoffs.
- Silencio (Outlands, NPC: CORE, Encounter) - Talks about being able to escape danger. In the CORE, Silencio is an encounter that acts as a Migosp.
- The Supervisor (Outlands, NPC) - Responsible for managing the Outlands party club.
- Tom Cryme (Outlands, NPC) - Accidentally spills a bucket on the Chaotic route, leaving them alone.
- Unnamed Steak Sale Patron (Outlands, NPC) - Complains that Glyde's steak enterprise is a fraud, and that the steak isn't "real" like the dealer says.
- DJ Red (Outlands) - Mentioned only by name. Said to be a regular performer at the Outlands party club and released a hit single called "Kamikaze."
- Skweakre (Starton, Encounter) - A monster which replaces Gyftrot. Got lost and is looking for a way back to Starton town. (To be replaced in the full game by a different cat-based monster)
- Joey (Starton, NPC) - A small monster holding a balloon, which was a reward from Undyne for helping her find a lost monster.
- Cupjake (Starton, NPC) - Talks about an odd red book in the library, which is being blocked by another NPC.
- Unnamed Teeth Monster (Starton, NPC) - Complains about the fragility of MTT-brand toothbrushes.
- Doge (Foundry, Encounter) - A first mini-boss at The Foundry. Retrieved from an unused encounter that was in Undertale.
- Radtile (Foundry, Encounter) - A monster which replaces Aaron. Seeks for the confidence.
- Perigee (Aerialis, Encounter) - A encounter which replaces Vulkin and based off a cut enemy design from Undertale.
- RG 03 & RG 04 (Aerialis, Encounter) - The first mini-bosses at Aerialis that replace RG 01 & RG 02, meanwhile RG 01 & RG 02 take other spots at The Rec Center.
- Mushkeeter (CORE, Encounter) - A small monster that is encountered near Mettaton's stage.
Locations[]
- The Ruins are replaced by The Outlands. The Outlands are adorned with red power lines running along mostly paste walls, as the area is a converted power station, and the floor is messy having polished and broken tiles scattered around. In addition, there is a lower-level area with a residential section and party club.
- Snowdin is replaced by Starton. Starton is much like Snowdin in terms of layout, a blue-tinted grassy area with shiny, faded golden pathways. There is a biodome surrounding the area. Starton town, much like Snowdin town, contains Grillbys, the Shop/Inn, the Library, as well as Sans and Papyrus's house. There are also a few new places, these being the fake police station and Napstablook's shop.
- Waterfall is replaced by The Foundry which is a large factory area and some areas that are outside the factory aswell. The path to access Temmie Village is changed to be in the Mad Dummy room and the bird at the gap now carries protagonist faster due to gap being widened.
- Hotland is replaced by Aerialis which is similar to Hotlands in terms of layout but has a shiny glass purple look to it. It has elevators with different floors on it, though no vents are present and one of the third floors leads to a side of the Rec Center instead of a different area. It is also revealed on the Chaotic route that there were plans to create a large city in the area much like the Citadel and foundations were set, however they never came into motion.
- MTT Resort is replaced by The Rec Center, being a much larger and wider and open area that is essentially just a central hub for Monsters to hang out in as Burgie puts it.
- The CORE has its original name but an entirely different dark blue aesthetic and a different layout which is much smaller and requires you to do one of two paths to progress.
- New Home is replaced by The Citadel not much is known about it besides mostly looking like a monochrome version of the Outlands.
- The True Lab is replaced by Archive Six.
Miscellaneous[]
- The Barrier is now known as the Force Field. Dialogue in the game suggests that SOUL power must be used to destroy it, just like in Undertale.
- The game's equivalent to a Genocide/No Mercy route is called the Chaotic route.
- Napstablook appears to be one of the competitors at Time vs. Money mini-game, in which you really can't win anything.
- Monster Kid has his own battle system that is similar to your own, although his acts can only lower an enemy's attack or defense, and his attack power can be random towards any enemy. He also can heal you 2 hp on a turn.
- There is also a lot of extra dialogue from Monster Kid in battles.
- Monster Kid appears to be one of the competitors at Time vs. Money mini-game.
- Temmie takes their place if they don't seem to appear after killing Muffet.
- The monsters' home world is known as Krios. Not much is known about Krios aside from Gerson mentioning a couple unnamed towns and cities that existed, and the last great era of Krios is described as being ruled by the previous monster King before Asgore, King Erogot who was seen as a great leader and helped keep the humans and monsters in harmony until he died. The chill cutscene with Napstablook also shows an image of what Krios generally looks like.
- There is a new route known as the LV0 Route, it is achieved by keeping your LV at 0 throughout the entire game, and it increases Chara's connection to you, as they slowly grow over time to like and realize you are not like most other humans. This new route adds some new sequences and a lot of new dialogue narration from Chara.
- At the end of the EX encounter with Mettaton, the protagonist can talk with Mettaton's ghost form.
- You can go out of bounds on the Aerialis puzzles in darker neutral routes where Alphys isn't around in Aerialis.
- Mettaton now can have the soul modes early since the 1st encounter.
- Their EX phase is invulnerable, and if reloading (after turning them around), the first phase of the battle can be skipped like Undertale.
Chaotic Route (Heavy Spoilers Inbound):[]
After completing Outland's Chaotic route and killing Toriel which is ultimately the same as doing Genocide in Undertale's Ruins aside from some unique lines, Twinkly swoops in and steals Toriel's SOUL before it shatters. This causes him to transform back into Asriel's child form. Asriel, still seeing the protagonist as Chara, proposes to them that they should help him destroy the world together to become more powerful, much like Flowey did in Undertale. After this, the protagonist follows Asriel out of the Outlands. Because Asriel gets his body back in Chaotic, it means the plot of this route is really different to the original game's Genocide route, the Outpost is also more aware of what's going on, including main characters like Alphys due to certain actions being done.
- The console's control is to doom the entire Outpost by Asriel's actions.
Papyrus can be spared in Chaotic Route under a new way, now with talking to avoid killing them. Afterwards they are hidden in their own room on a skeleton clothing wardrobe, to avoid being spoiled to Asriel.
On Chaotic monsters can still be spared like the normal encounters thanks to Monster Kid. Jerry, Papyrus, Muffet & Glad Dummy on the Chaotic Route, can still be ran away from without consequences. There is a "Aborted Chaotic Route" that has a alternate ending.
Mettaton switches from their current body to NEO thanks to a control chip in the Chaotic Route, doing their transformation early off-screen. Mettaton also has their own unique soul mode in Chaotic Route at the Mettaton NEO battle, alongside with a shield, requiring the player to collect the heart notes to hit the shield and weaken the enemy. After Mettaton is killed, Napstablook appears to avenge hit cousin's death but he is one-shot by Asriel with his magic.
Alphys takes Sans' role as the final genocide fight, and she is considered the hardest boss in the game.
