GhostTale is an AU where Undertale is in the "kingdom of the dead", the name given to the Underground by humans. A world where no one ever returns. The characters all have a ghostly appearance, attacks, and themes (music). There are many capes and long draping clothes, much of which is white, black, and deep grey.
GhostTale's official canon follows almost the same path as Undertale. However, unlike Undertale, after the monsters were locked in the underground, the monsters for the most part died in a major disaster. Few are left alive and, having lost their loved ones, await death. Those who died have lost their memories. Memories that have been totally rewritten by Ghoster.
Essentially, the Pacifist, Neutral, and Genocide routes apply here as well, but the character personalities are different than in Undertale. For the most part, becoming quite depressive, fearful, hateful or crazy.
Monsters that cannot become dust, go into the "void" when they "die". Which for them is worse than death, as their soul wanders endlessly in the infinite void (and may come across Ghoster who needs enough souls to come out.)

Characters[]
Frisk[]
Still the main protagonist, Frisk fell into the Underground and did not really survive the fall. They are from the start equipped with an old wooden stick and a white rabbit plush. They are fairly calm and fearful but can become quite talkative and at ease with someone they know well or like.
Flowey[]
Being a black and white flower, Flowey is always the first character Frisk meets at the entrance to the ruins. But still has that sinister aggression towards the human. He hates anyone who approaches him or asks him questions about his identity. Flowey has amnesia and that frustrates him greatly.
Toriel[]
Toriel is one of the major characters of Ghosttale. She saves the protagonist from Flowey before fleeing into the ruins of which she is the guardian. She is depressed and would spend most of her time crying. She hardly ever jokes and smiles. The only diary she keeps is stained with tears. She is blind, hardly ever speaks, and often disappears without saying anything. Being blind, all his thoughts are written in his diary. She will still try to stay with Frisk as long as possible. She sometimes bakes pastries for some monsters from the ruins that pass by. The idea of helping others makes her feel a little better. She also often comes to the gate of the ruins, where she often hears someone cry. But she will never dare to speak.
Albin[]
Albin is a young monster found in the ruins. He is often at the cemetery near the ruins, mourning his dead friend. He is quite fearful around adults but comfortable around children his age, like Frisk. He quietly follows people, feeling lonely and being curious. He usually followed Toriel (being a little afraid of her, which changed over time) before becoming friends with the previous human. But after his death, he preferred to get away from Toriel and Flowey. He sometimes likes to watch the magic shows of Echo, a magician bat but also egocentric (which replaces the role of Mettaton).
Sans[]
Sans ( or Ghost ), is the older brother of Papyrus, the royal judge, a royal scientist and a major character in Ghosttale. He and his brother live in Snowdin and work as sentries. He hardly ever shows his emotions (except in front of his friends and family), and often thinks about dark things. His humor is also very dark. That's why he hardly ever makes jokes. This depresses those around him even more. He often goes to the Ruins Gate to be alone (or cry) when he doesn't feel like going to Waterfall. He also has a great unexplained fear of cats. He doesn't really have a favorite drink but often drinks milk or alcohol at Chillby's. When he attacks, his eye shines brighter, the other being blind. His Ghoster Blasters are transparent and cannot be destroyed. However, they end up disappearing on their own after a little while ... The only good relations he has are with his brother, Alphys and Toriel whom he will meet for a while. He also has a "shadow" form which makes him invulnerable for 5 minutes. She is also the accumulation of hatred in the depths of his being (which is also distinguished by its marks which enlarge and cover his whole body when he takes this form.) They also come out of the gaping hole in his chest. This form is like the dark part of himself. When he comes to himself, he has no memory of what happened during those 5 minutes. We call him Shadow at that time. Even Sans sees this being as a separate entity. Hence his name different from his.
Papyrus[]

Papyrus is one of the major protagonists of this AU. He is Sans's overprotected brother. He's tired and almost bored of everything. He doesn't want more than that to become a Royal Guard but enjoys spending time with Undyne and a few friends and family ... He is still very sympathetic. But he doesn't let himself be pissed off by someone bad. He doesn't have the motivation to fight (except if he's a human and/or a potential future friend) or to cook but always makes an effort for those two things when he's with Undyne during his "training". However, he still has a passion for puzzles. When he is with other people he pretends to hate the annoying little dog, when he is not.
Chillby[]
Chillby is Snowdin's bartender in this AU. He speaks with signs because of his silence. He has a passion for reading and often visits Muffet's library. He uses ice magic. He is quite shy and hides feelings for Muffet. His flames are white but turn blue when he is upset or angry or when someone tells him about Muffet and teases him about his feelings.

Muffet ( or Muppet ) is almost one of the major characters of Ghosttale. This time she keeps a library in Snowdin (which is also much larger and older than the one in Undertale). She is extremely shy and fearful. She very often has nightmares and is afraid of too dark places (achluophobia). She can summon small white flames. She also sells inexpensive pastries everywhere. Even in the library. It is a kind of living doll that has the appearance of a spider, which often scares people. Chillby doesn't know it, but Muppet has feelings for him.
Dogamy & Dogaressa[]
Dogaressa is a fairly fearful member of the Royal Guard and often has flashbacks in certain places or moments that remind her of her death that she remembers a little too much. This event will have traumatized her to the point of hating his job. She is very calm but cannot stand the fact that someone is attacking her husband.
Dogamy is a member of the royal guard and also the husband of Dogaressa. He only has courage when needed and remembers how he died, but his memories are a little more blurry than those of his wife. He and Dogaressa died hand in hand during an "event" which occurred in the Underground and which wiped out almost the entire monster population. Unfortunately, they never found their son, Doggy.
Undyne[]
Undyne is still the captain of the Royal Guard. She is quickly destabilized. She doesn't want to kill anyone. Not even a human. But she would if the situation turned critical. She gets along well with everyone despite her slight shyness. She also secretly loves Alphys but doesn't think it's mutual. She doesn't like to wear armor and appear threatening. So she made it change a bit. However, for some reason his helmet had to stay as it is. This is also the reason why she hardly ever wears it.
Alphys[]
Alphys is still the current royal scientist. But his character has totally changed. She has become egocentric and claims that she can do anything. She doesn't like to show her feelings, remaining cold and distant. She does, however, have a secret passion for romantic novels and films. Her favorite character is Lady Mew, a wax doll who has come to life. An accident that dates back years will have made her distant and cold. The only people she gets along with quite well are Undyne, Sans, and Asgore.
Mettaton[]
Mettaton, by his ghost name Hapstablook, is a robot created to be a powerful royal guard and kill humans. It has a basic form, an EX form, and a Neo form. Originally, he had come to see Alphys so that she could make sure that he could realize his dream, to become a great musician (a pianist). But not everything goes as planned (for him), and she built it in such a way that he can fight. Which must be, according to her, he's only goal. He hates being a royal guard, but being under the control of Alphys, he can't really do anything else. He enjoys classical music and secretly listens to the music Napstablook composes when he is unsupervised. He helps people the best he can and is against violence like Undyne.
Echo[]
Echo is a bat monster living in Abyssland (instead of Muffet in UT). He is a great magician who has a lot of fans. He has a mansion that serves as a hotel. This is located at the entrance of CORE. He hates being bothered, especially when he's sleeping. He attacks with a horde of little bats and sharp playing cards.
Amaze[]
He is a royal guard skeleton and is, in character very similar to UT's undyne. in addition exaggerated and with some changes. Unlike Undyne from this AU, Amaze will relentlessly chase us all the way to CORE to get our soul. His hunt begins from the Blook Mansion. He is proud but despite Undyne's pacifism, he respects her and does not want her place as captain. He is not related to Sans and Papyrus. Sans and he even hate each other. For some reason... As children he and Paps had had problems, Amaze and his group of "friends" consisting of Aaron, Jerry and Coral had repeatedly harassed Papyrus to the point of beating (not too powerful either) until Sans intervened and made sure they didn't no longer bother his little brother. Amaze keeps a scar on the left side of his face as a reminder of that fight he lost. (he can heal her but he just thinks he looks cool like that).
Asgore[]
Asgore, King of the Underground, has almost the same personality as Toriel, in addition to being mute, amnesic and apathetic. Like Toriel, he would have become like that after the "amalgamate incident". Many monsters have changed after this incident (especially Alphys).
Asriel[]
Asriel is the son of Toriel and Asgore, therefore the prince of the Underground. And Chara's brother and best friend. After having "fallen", he will be accidentally changed into Amalgamate, and Flowey, by Alphys during an event bringing together almost all of the monsters, and his parents... After his "death", he will change his mind about humans and will only want to kill them. (Flowey, without her memories, won't have that goal yet)
Chara[]
Chara is the first fallen and adopted child of the monster royal family. They often make not-so-bad jokes at monsters. They have a really good relationship with Asriel (to the point of speaking only to him) even though their opinions about humans are not the same. Indeed, Chara hates humans. But that's something that will change after they die.
Character designs[]
- Frisk has white skin (like almost every character in this AU), black hair, a gray sweater with black stripes, and big black eyes.
- Flowey is a white flower with black petals and stem.
- Toriel has a long black dress with flounce sleeves in white silk. She wears a black pendant representing the delta rune. She also has large black horns.
- Albin is a little devil-like monster. It has two small horns and a long, slender tail. He wears the same sweater as Frisk.
- Sans is a white skeleton with black markings on the face and chest. He wears a long, tattered gray scarf, a black jacket with the delta rune inscribed on his left shoulder, a black sweater, black shorts with zygzagged white stripes, and black sneakers. Only his left eye shines.
- Papyrus also has black markings on his face and wears white and gray armor with pointy shoulders. His arms and legs are covered with black cloth, he has gray and black gloves and boots pointy. He also wears black pants.
- Dogamy and Dogaressa are dressed in a long black hooded robe, their eyes are black with a white pupil, and they are armed with a scythe instead of an ax.
- Chillby is white or blue when it feels a strong emotion. He is dressed in his usual bartender clothes. He wears glasses.
- Muffet is a living doll / spider that is usually white and black in color. Her hair is long and black and has grey knots. she has a light gray outfit with black patterns on it, and has a large black bow at the chest. She has a dark gray skirt and black tights. She also wears small glasses.
- Undyne is a white skin colored fish monster. She has black hair and fins. She has a ponytail that does not completely tie up her hair which is quite long. Her eyes are black with white pupils but she wears a blindfold to hide her left eye. She also wears black and white armor with the delta rune inscribed on it. Her armor does not cover her arms and legs. She wears black gauntlets and the tip of her armor stops at her thighs. She wears black and white boots.
- Alphys is a lizard monster with white scales. She wears a long black dress with the delta rune under her scientist's coat. She has black eyes with white pupils and has glasses. She also has little fangs sticking out of her mouth.
- Mettaton is a robot. His arms are in gray metal and his chest is in white metal. He wears white gloves and boots with black toes and toes and has a pretty pokerface look. He has black shoulders with a white line on the underside. His heart is white and upside down. He has a long phantom white sword.
- Echo is a dark gray bat with white inner ears and belly. The pattern of the fur on his belly is reminiscent of a costume. He wears a small black top hat and has small hooked hands at the tips of his large wings. He has slender, black legs. He also has black fur around his neck.
- Amaze is a white skeleton with the same black markings as Sans and Papyrus. He has a scar on his left eye and has very sharp teeth. He wears a long, slightly tattered gray scarf. He also wears black armor with the delta rune inscribed on it at chest.
- Asgore is a tall white goat monster with dark hair. He has dark markings on his cheeks and black eyes with white pupils. He wears a black crown with a white diamond on it. He also has large black horns and dark gray armor and a black cloak. He is very often armed with his shiny white trident.
- Asriel (kid) is a little white goat monster with small black horns. Like the others, he has black markings on his cheeks and black eyes with white pupils. He wears a gray sweater with a black stripe and a black cape and pants. He does not wear shoes but wears a pendant representing the delta rune around his neck.
- Chara is a human with very white (ghost) skin and large black eyes. Their hair is short and black and they wear the same sweater as Asriel. They don't wear a cape but black boots.
