Dreamtale is a Multiversal AU created by the Tumblr user Jokublog. It is about a light being of positive feelings, who travel the Undertale Multiverse and beyond to restore balance, and to save everyone from a horrific force that threatens to destroy it. Although it was started as a story book, an animated continuation of the AUs is in the works.
The Dreamtale AU has many other AUs based off of it. Some popular ones are Dreamswap, DINTIS (Darkness!Dream), and Shattered!Dream.
Characters[]
Nim[]
The original guardian of the Tree of Feelings, and Dream and Nightmare's creator. Whilst stern when needed, she's shown to be calm and patient, though she looks down on all mortal life. She relocate to the Undertale Multiverse after she felt unsafe around the other Trees, only to be attacked by a human who came to obtain one of the golden apple. She was mortally wounded protecting her respective tree; and after slaying her attacker, she resorts to create two replacements to guard it. She was ultimately slain by the vengeful spirit of said human, who was possessing Nightmare to do his bidding.
Corrupted Nightmare[]
The human responsible for the events of Dreamtale. He came to the Tree of Feelings to obtain the Golden Apple for ultimate power. Though he’s successful in mortally wounding the tree's Guardian, Nim, she dealt a finishing blow to him. He was absorbed by the negative side of the tree; and when Nightmare ate the dark apples, he took complete control over his body. He's now roaming the Undertale Multiverse with the goal of erasing all positive feelings out of all existence.
In his current form, he's completely covered in the Negative feelings that manifest in black liquid. He often use said feelings to shape shift and can manifest as tentacles for attacks. Nightmare prey upon Sans of the Multiverse, often seen in their clothing to frame them, and further drive them into despair.
Dream[]
Dream is a light being that uses a vessel in a form of Swap!Sans to protect the golden apples of positive feelings. He's the more playful and vibrant of the two guardians and also an altruist, but despite his exterior, he internally suffers as much as his brother. Dream has the mentality of a 10-12-year-old child despite his physical age, as he was stuck in stone for most of his life, though he grows more mature as time passes.
He wore a blue shirt and a yellow belt with the initials "DS" on them, with a blue cloth with yellow stars tucked into the belt. He always wore a yellow cape with a sun on it he and Nightmare made when they were younger, which ended up getting torn up by the latter during a fight. In more recent years, Dream would be portrayed wearing a new outfit. (Seen here)
Nightmare[]
Nightmare is a light being that use a vessel in a form of Swap!Sans to protect the black apples of negative feelings. He is more closed-off than his other, brighter half because of the pain the villagers brought him when he was growing up, but fairly smart and cunning. After letting his emotions overcome him with help of the apples, he is corrupted by those negative feelings and becomes a nigh invincible creature of agony and despair.
Neil[]
A homeless cat-monster who lost his arm and family in a fire. He becomes Dream's best friend after he shows him kindness, and sees him as the son he'd lost. He, later on, helps him while he was stuck in stone along with the guardian of magic by taking him away from Nightmare, though he ends up dying at some yet unknown point.
Lanny[]
The guardian of the Tree of Magic, or Yggdrasil. Her personality is unknown so far. She is the one who vows to help break the spell that turned Dream to stone and becomes his teacher and trainer afterward. She holds a deep hatred toward Nightmare for everything he's done, but she also hates Dream, as she sees them both responsible for Nim's death. She is the only one without apples as her fruits are pears with a rainbow inside. She appears in one of Joku's live streams along with Quetzalcoatl here. Lanny was also the one that gave Dream his new outfit.
Ink[]
At Some point, Dream will encounter Ink during his travels and mistakes him as a Guardian like him (They meet when Dream was still in his first outfit and Ink's old design). However, he later realized that he’s only a selfish protector that guards the fates of the AUs and his view points on life conflicts with his own.
Quetzalcoatl[]
The guardian of the Tree of Life. He appears in some of Joku's live streams. He is actually two split guardians, one that represents life and another that represents death, both in the shape of giant snakes. When not split, he has a more humanoid appearance with snake-like traits as shown here. He is based on an Aztec god with the same name.

The three Trees[]
In the center of all of the Multiverses lies three trees that provide Feelings, Magic, and Life to all of the Universes in the story. Their existence and location remains a secret among each other. Each Tree protect itself by projecting a humanoid deity to serve as their guardian. However, said Guardians is linked to their respective tree, and any harm to the tree will apply to them and vice versa.
Tree of Feelings[]
The Tree of Feelings provide said feelings across the Multiverses through the fruits that it bears. It bears two kinds of fruits: The Golden Apple and the Dark Apple. The Golden Apple provides Positive Feelings, while the Dark Apple provides the Negative ones. A Mortal can only consume one apple, as eating more can cause the body to rupture from the overload of Feelings they provided.
The Tree itself is currently dead; but it is possible that a new one can be planted to take its place.
Tree of Magic[]
The tree of Magic functions similar to the Tree of Feelings, though so far it is the only other Tree that were surrounded by Life (even before the Tree of Feelings). It was populated by Elves and Monsters, though Lanny favor the formers to the point the she took their form. It's fruits were different form the others as they took the form of Rainbow Pears[1].
Tree of Life[]
The Tree of Life serves as medium to enforce the cycle of Life, Death and Reincarnation. Its apples are not edible, as they are made out of glowing blue crystal. When people die, their souls returns to the tree and incubate within its apples. When said apple dropped to the ground, these souls break free and are reborn into different a different lifeform in a different universe.

Trivia[]
- Joku created Nightmare for a cancelled AU, Underflesh. The concept wasn't very popular, but Nightmare was; Thus she scrapped the AU, and repurpose the character for Dreamtale.
- Dreamtale was inspired by the Dreamworks movie: The Prince of Egypt[2] and by Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland.
- At the time of this writing Dream and Nightmare were currently 500+ years old. They're born on December 21.
- Dreamtale is slated to have 4 endings, with one of them being featured in the upcoming animated series.
- It is stated that Dream and Nightmare will obtain their Guardian forms at the true ending of the story.
- The Dead can‘t feel in this story.
- Thanks to their respective apples, both Dream and Nightmare became Conceptual Beings; Physical Manifestation of both Positive and Negative Feelings respectively. It was because of this, that nothing can kill them except one another; as they’re polar opposite that can cause them to be neutralized when they come into contact with each other.
- Being Conceptual Beings, they rely on the existence of their respective feelings to survive.
- If Corrupted Nightmare were to succeed, all of the Multiverses will die off in agony.
