Alterdune is an AU made by Canuckistan and adopted by Paprus, which takes place 2 years after Frisk completes a true pacifist run. The primary lore change is that the Barrier, alongside preventing the Monsters from leaving the Underground, also suppressed their SOUL Traits, turning their SOULs white and causing them to instantly shatter upon death. Before the Barrier's creation, Monster souls had Traits just like human SOULs, and as such were stronger (however, still much weaker than Humans). After the destruction of the Barrier, all monsters had their SOUL Traits returned to them, and as such became more powerful. The story revolves around Frisk receiving significant damage to their SOUL, and being forced to choose a new one every RESET. Each SOUL provides Frisk with different abilities (more in the SOULs section), which provides a reason for them to continue to RESET.
Characters[]
Frisk[]
Frisk is the protagonist of Alterdune. 14 years old as of the events of Alterdune, Frisk severely dislikes simply waiting for things to happen, and is constantly determined to do what's right. Frisk's SAVEing and LOADing, while still reliant on SAVE stars, have become much stronger. Frisk is now able to LOAD back to any save star they have ever saved at, and is able to create SAVE stars when not actively in danger. She is, however, very reluctant to use this power, as Sans has discouraged her from doing so.
Sans[]
Sans remains his lazy, joking self. He is not in any actual romantic relationships, however regularly flirts with Toriel. He, while not actively worried about everything being RESET, is still somewhat suspicious of Frisk, regularly analyzing her facial expressions to see if she has been through "this" already. Due to him having a Justice SOUL, he is now a bit more powerful. His birthday is January 25th. Theme: Justicevania by ben11212.
Flowey (Asriel)[]
Flowey is the only monster completely unchanged by the breaking of the Barrier. Due to a nondescript "incident," he is confined to a pot labelled "Flowey," which has been placed in Asgore's home. His birthday is May 23rd.
Toriel[]
After escaping the underground, Toriel moved in with Sans and Papyrus in order to take care of Frisk. Toriel mostly wears the same attire except for the fact that the purple on her gown is now a dark green, and she now wears glasses permanently. Toriel has the soul of Kindness, and her birthday is September 18th.
Asgore[]
After leaving the Underground, Asgore became the King of the Monsters, however eventually decreed that the office of King would, strangely, become an elected position. He was still reelected since no one else ran for office. His kingly outfit is precisely the same, however he has elected to wear an orange cloak, which is entirely unrelated to his SOUL of Bravery. His birthday is August 1st.
Papyrus[]
Papyrus is still the lovable sack of bones as he was, and now is a very popular chef, despite not being the best at combining certain dishes like he tries to. He has the soul of kindness. Papyrus no longer wears his "Battle Body," as he is no longer attempting to become a Royal Guard. His birthday is December 8th. Theme: introtrousle by ben11212
Gaster[]
Gaster is the father of Sans and Papyrus and is the (false) main Antagonist of Alterdune. Gaster was able to return to existence via significant effort of Alphys and Sans, utilizing a robotic body designed to be as similar to Gaster's original appearance as possible. After being updated on what has occurred since his shattering, Gaster immediately worked on designing a new CORE for the Kingdom. Despite known for being anti-human since his birth, he never chooses to take action until the events of Alterdune, where he launches an attack on a diplomatic meeting, severely harming Frisk. His violent actions (such as taking over the New CORE, sending robots to attack humans in the Kingdom, et cetera) are actually the result of possession by the real main villain, Malum.
Alphys[]
Alphys is still the royal scientist in this AU. She is still obsessed with anime, and she is married to Undyne. She has the trait of integrity. Her birthday is March 6th.
Undyne[]
Undyne is NOT the head of the royal guard in this AU, as it has been disbanded, but she is still a hero among monsters and now mostly helps Alphys with her experiments. She is also married to her. She has the soul of Determination. Her birthday is October 31st.
Mettaton[]
Mettaton is now an A-list celebrity. He also now has a better relationship with his cousin Napstablook, and he is also is less of a showoff. He has the soul of perseverance. His birthday is June 19th.
Napstablook[]
Napstablook now is more happy, and composes much of the music for Mettaton's show. He also has a friendship with Flowey. He has the soul of integrity. Napstablook is now a blueish tint and smiles more often. His birthday is April 2nd.
Muffet[]
Muffet now has her bakery in Newer Home (despite everything, Asgore is still terrible with names) and is engaged in a friendly rivalry with Grillby. She doesn't sell her pastries for outrageous prices anymore either, since the spider clans are reunited. Her soul trait is perseverance. Her birthday is November 16th.
Grillby[]
Grillby established a new restaurant in Newer Home, where he is engaged in a friendly rivalry with Muffet. He has the soul of patience. Grillby now wears a cyan bow tie and the outside of his flames are cyan too. His birthday is August 31st.
Shopkeeper Temmie[]
Temmie is now very popular for their Temmie armor, and now they forge some of the best armor and weapons in the world. They have the soul of Perseverance. They now wear a purple and yellow striped sweater. Their birthday is April 2nd.
Monster kid[]
Monster kid, after escaping the Underground, finally becomes friends with his hero Undyne. He has the soul of Patience. Monster kid looks exactly the same, but he now wears a cyan scarf. His birthday is January 13th.
Mad Mew Mew[]
Mad Mew Mew, due to basically being a real life version of Mew Mew from the famous anime, is now incredibly popular. She regularly makes guest appearances on Mettaton's show, and has a contract with the studio originally responsible for Mew Mew Kissy Cutie to make a "live-action" recreation (much to Alphys' delight). Her birthday is August 4th.

Each of the SOULs which Frisk can obtain has a different "narrator," who describes things in a different manner.
Bravery🧡/James[]
James is mostly nice to Frisk and gives her tactical advice, but shames her when she flees a battle.
Kindness💚/Olivia[]
Olivia is always nice to Frisk and gives her moral support in battles, and is actively against any form of violence.
Patience💙/Amy[]
Amy provides inspirational and poetic quotes consistently, and encourages Frisk to wait (much to her dismay).
Justice💛/ Adam[]
Adam seeks to impose justice, informing Frisk of the morality of anyone she encounters and constantly saying what he believes to be the right thing to do.
Integrity💙/Alina[]
Alina will mostly be honest on how she feels based on whatever happens.
Perseverance💜/Chris[]
Chris always provides frisk with moral support, and encourages her to keep going in the face of problems.
Determination💗/Chara[]
If Frisk chooses to not pick any SOUL, then their original SOUL will be healed and returned to them. Chara has no differences from Undertale.
Locations[]
Mt. Ebbott[]
Mt. Ebbott, in Alterdune, is located where the real life Bighorn Mountain is in Nebraska, United States. After significant negotiations, the Kingdom of the Monsters was able to receive a large chunk of the Midwest, where each county would vote on whether or not they were okay with joining the Kingdom. For most of the humans in the Kingdom, life did not really change, as Asgore sought to make the Kingdom as unobtrusive as possible.
The New CORE[]
Utilizing the Yellowstone Volcano as a base, Dr Gaster was able to design a new, even MORE powerful CORE. The new CORE provides an enormous amount of geothermal energy out of the super volcano, so much that the Kingdom exports energy to nearby nations. It is also the location of the final battle.
New Sub Terra[]
New Sub Terra is a small reconstruction of the Underground, from the Ruins to New Home. It was incredibly difficult to construct, however the money earned from visitors to the enormous museum is able to easily pay it off. It is often the site of many field trips for schoolchildren, as it provides a wonderous opportunity for them to learn.

SOUL abilities[]
Every SOUL has a unique ability.
Bravery🧡[]
The SOUL Trait of Bravery provides the owner of the SOUL with the ability to shrug off enemy attacks, so long as they charge headfirst into them. They take increased damage from blue attacks.
Kindness💚[]
The SOUL Trait of Kindness is granted incredibly powerful healing magic, as well as the ability to see what is troubling someone and how to fix it. Those who have the SOUl of Kindness take increased damage.
Patience💙[]
Those who have a SOUL of Patience are able to take significantly reduced damage from attacks, as they are given the ability to easily dodge them when standing still enough. The SOUl of Patience does cause one to move slower however.
Justice💛[]
Those with a SOUL of Justice deal increased damage based on the "villainousness" of the enemy. They are also stronger when fighting a more "villainous" foe. It is unclear what being "villainous" is defined as, however it seems to be consistent between those with SOULs of Justice. Those with a SOUL of Justice, however, are ironically far more prone to corruption, and going on journeys of vengeance because "it is the right thing to do."
Integrity💙[]
Those with the SOUL of Integrity are able to take significantly less damage from attacks due to having a naturally high DEF stat, however they deal significantly less damage due to their inherent moral codes.
Perseverance💜[]
The SOUL Trait of Perseverance grants the owner the ability to constantly heal themselves over time. Those with this SOUL are, however, more prone to attacks that deal damage over time.
Determination💗[]
The SOUL of Determination is incredibly powerful, granting the owner the ability to SAVE and LOAD. Determination is an equal balance between each SOUL Trait, and as such is the must powerful, with the benefits stacking up and the downsides cancelling out. Even if (somehow) someone with Determination loses their SOUL, they will still have enough leftovers of pure strength to continue SAVEing and LOADing.
Hatred🖤[]
Hatred is an unnatural SOUL trait. Rather than being something one naturally gains, Hatred is a SOUL Trait that is granted when one is corrupted by Malum. Those with this SOUL lose all control of themselves, simply becoming a vessel for a horrible creature.
